As Whistler celebrates a record breaking November snowfall, the red carpet is rolling out for the Whistler Film Festival, which runs this Dec. 3-6. The festival is a celebration of Canadian film and features dozens of national and international films.
After reviewing the film schedule, there are a few flicks that caught my eye – from the bizarre to the event more bizarre. DEFENDOR starring Woody Harrelson, is about a delusional superhero-type character. Meanwhile, MACHOTAILDROP is a fantasy skateboard movie, while BEST WORST MOVIE delves into the debate of whether the B-Grade horror movie Troll 2 really was the worst movie ever made (as claimed by IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes) or whether it was a stroke of genius.
Another unique experience is the free outdoor screening of the NEIL YOUNG TRUNK SHOW which will be playing in Skiers’ Plaza on December 5 starting at 6pm.
Closing off the festival will be the much-anticipated film, “Edge of Never,” an Eon Productions documentary that follows teen pro skier Kye Petersen on his quest to ski the challenging pitch that took the life of his father – famed skier Trevor Petersen. Surrounded by skiing legends like Glen Plake, Stephan “FanFan” Dan and Eric Pehota, Kye embarks on a life changing journey. Check out the teaser:
And what festival wouldn’t be complete without great parties? The opening Gala kicks off the festival on Thursday, Dec. 3, and the DOSE Official Festival Party on Dec. 5 takes place at the GLC.
I’ll be heading to the VIP lounge on Friday afternoon for a little live blogging and Tweeting.
